A charming and early fanfare binding made for Gian Federico Madruzzo (1531?–1586) with his arms on the upper and lower covers; for more information on his collection, see lot 1064. Further volumes bound for Madruzzo in varying styles include Bibliotheca Brookeriana I, 11 October 2023, lot 12 (Berosus), Bibliotheca Brookeriana IV, 18 October 2024, lot 956 (Manuzio), and lots 1064 (Cicero), 1149 (Lucanus), 1183 (Prudentius), 1204 (Silius Italicus), 1210 (Tauler), 1219 (Thriveris) and 1222 (Titelmans) in the present sale.
16mo (120 x 78 mm). Roman and italic type, 35 lines plus headline. collation: A-K8 L4: 84 leaves. Woodcut printer's device on title-page, woodcut initials, ruled in red. (Light foxing or browning throughout, few ink stains, inscription erased from foot of title-page.)
binding: Contemporary Parisian armorial binding for G.F. Madruzzo (125 x 85 mm), vellum richly gilt à la fanfare, leafy branches and floral tools, Madruzzo arms in centre, flat spine gilt, title lettered in second compartment, edges gilt. (Slightly soiled, ends of spine and corners slightly rubbed.)
