Description

Artist: Roger Kastel (b.1932)

Unframed: 30 1/2 x 40 1/4 in. (77.5 x 102.2 cm)

This British poster contains the full Roger Kastel artwork, that was also included on the American withdrawn international concept poster. These two posters include Lando Calrissian, Boba Fett, and a Hoth Rebel trench cannon, together with the iconic image of Han Solo and Princess Leia, in what is known as the "Gone with the Wind" style. This imagery bears a resemblance to the embrace of Clark Gable and Vivien Leigh on the classic 1939 film poster for Gone with the Wind. This rare poster was designed early on in the film's advertising campaign, for use on the London Underground, to promote the film's premiere. This poster was replaced by two different style B posters, designed by Tom Jung, which were used nationwide, and printed in large quantities. (Those two style B posters have totally different artwork. They are identical apart from the colouring of the title box). When used on the London Underground, the style A poster had to be trimmed as it was too large. This is an untrimmed example, and is the ultimate British poster on this film.

This is the second film in the original Star Wars trilogy, which is now also known as Star Wars: Episode V–The Empire Strikes Back. Although George Lucas did not direct this film, he wrote the story and served as executive producer.
