oil on canvas

unframed: 98.1 x 80.7 cm.; 38⅝ x 31¾ in.

framed: 124.5 x 112.9 cm.; 49 x 44½ in.

The canvas has a firm lining, and the paint surface is clean with a clear varnish. There is a hole in the canvas upper centre (approx. 0.5 x 0.5cm) with associated retouching. There is a small repaired horizontal tear in the background centre left (approx. 1cm long). There is retouching visible along all the margins. Inspection under ultraviolet light confirms the aforementioned retouchings and further reveals an extensive campaign of tiny retouchings throughout the composition. This campaign does not detract from the legibility of the painting which is ready to hang.

Anonymous sale, London, Bonhams, 6 July 2004, lot 192 (as Circle of Mario Nuzzi), where acquired.
