Description

Girolamo Manfredi

Opera nova intitolata il Perche utilissima ad intendere la cagione de molte cose & maximamente alla conservatione della sanita. (Venice: Giorgio Rusconi, 8 April 1512)

4to (213 x 150mm.), woodcut printer's device on title-page, woodcut initials, with final blank leaf, modern red calf tooled in period style

Manfredi was a respected fifteenth-century Bolognese astrologer and physician; this is one of numerous editions of his popular medical treatise, first printed in Bologna in 1474 (and sometimes referred to as Liber de homine despite being written in Italian). This Aristotelian treatise, based on the Problemata, deals with the preservation of health and the effects of food on the humours as well as comments on physiology and physiognomy.
