Description
John Ruskin
Autograph letter signed, to Jane Simon
written in a state of apparent agitation, thanking her and her husband for a promise of lecture “on things in general” and for their solicitude (“I always and once for all know you both care for me”), saying that no-one can do him the least good “till I’ve worked or dreamed out my way… till I get more humble and content to be nobody… till I’ve finished my political economy – till I’ve got a cottage with currant bushes before the door”, 2 pages, 8vo, no place or date, probably 1880s
Jane Simon was the wife of the pathologist and Chief Medical Officer Sir John Simon, who treated Ruskin during the periods of poor mental health that characterised his later life.
