the first a humorous letter, on being kept at Amiens, on arranging to meet and planning for “a little romance somewhere, only it's very hard for me to be romantic in frosty weather”, and on preferring her to make do with little money rather than “giving afternoon tea to a London Duchess -- and her train -- on the pay of a sensation novel”; the second letter comprising arrangements to meet at the National Gallery (“I shall be in the Turner room D[eo] V[olente] either day”), together 3 pages, 8vo, Herne Hill, 22 November 1880 and undated, slight spotting
