Art Out Loud 2017 Celebrates Art and Fashion

By Sotheby's

The 2017 Art Out Loud festival at Chatsworth features an impressive array of high-profile speakers from the worlds of art and fashion.

Now in its third year, the festival runs from Friday 22 until Sunday 24 September and promises talks from artists, curators and writers including Grayson Perry, Yinka Shonibare MBE and Phyllida Barlow, whose talk is sponsored by Sotheby’s.

For Grayson Perry it is a return visit to Art Out Loud following a sell-out appearance at the inaugural event in 2015 and the artist is promising a talk in which he will “go off on one” about art, gender and politics.

Other standout talks include former MP Tristram Hunt discussing his new role as Director of the V&A, Bendor Grosvenor on Sir Anthony Van Dyck’s self-portraits and Sotheby’s Simon Stock in conversation with Marc Quinn.

To coincide with the House Style: Five Centuries of Fashion exhibition, this year’s festival will also include leading figures from the world of fashion for the first time including designers Christopher Kane and Erdem Moralioglu, who will reveal the inspirations behind the collections that made him one of the fashion industry’s most highly regarded figures.

Other fashion highlights include Lady Burlington talking about her personal involvement in bringing House Style to Chatsworth and Sotheby’s Jonquil O’Reilly on the fashion excesses depicted in the period paintings that adorn the walls of the house.

Speaking about this year’s festival, Sheron Reynolds, Director of Art Out Loud, said: “We’re thrilled that at Art Out Loud 2017, in addition to the many fascinating talks about art, several will be about fashion, reflecting the theme of the hugely successful House Style exhibition – and that Grayson Perry, something of a walking (and talking) fashion icon will be returning to Art Out Loud. With its wide range of speakers, we hope Art Out Loud 2017 will provide ‘something for everyone’ while at the same time offering in-depth insights into the work of some extraordinary individual artists, curators writers – and fashion designers.”
