Bifolium from a Missal


Illuminated manuscript in Latin on vellum. [France (Paris?), 14th century (2nd? quarter)]


Bifolium, c.295×415 mm; written in fine textura script in 2 columns of 28 lines (c.195×120mm); the text including the start of the Common of Saints; decorated with fine flourished initials and a large illuminated puzzle initial in gold and blue, with gold and blue extensions and blue and red flourishing; the running headings added in the 16th century ‘In vigilia unius apostoli’ etc. Some marginal discolouration.


A fine, large, and striking bifolium from a de luxe manuscript.
