First edition of Dolce’s tragedy. An adaptation of the work would later be the first Greek tragedy to be performed on the English stage.

 

8vo (155 x 106 mm). Roman and Italic type, 29 lines plus headline. collation: A-G8: 56 leaves. Woodcut Aldine device to title- page and final verso. (Last quire splitting, loss to lower corner of F6, long closed tear to rear flyleaf, scattered foxing and browning.)

 

binding: Early limp vellum (150 x 105 mm), paper label laid down on upper cover, lettered in ink XIV | DOLCE | 1549. (Vellum worn and with some soiling.)
