FIRST EDITION, 8vo (190 x 115mm.), 15 engraved plates and maps, some double-page, some folding, contemporary specked calf, occasional light spotting, cracking of joints, wear to head and foot
"This is an account of a squadron of six men-of-war on an expedition to found a French settlement in the Strait of Magellan, proposed by French buccaneers who had settled there. The project failed. This account of the expedition is especially noteworthy for details of natural history subjects and for the accuracy of Froger's charts. Froger went on this voyage at the age of eighteen" (Hill).
