2014 and 2015 have been marked by great success for Victorian, Pre-Raphaelite & British Impressionist Art at Sotheby’s. In December 2014 Venus Verticordia by Rossetti sold for £2,882,500, the highest price ever achieved at auction for a watercolour by the artist. In 2015 Lord Leighton’s Study for ‘Flaming June broke the record for a work on paper by the artist (£167,000), while Sir Lawrence Alma-Tadema’s achieved the strong price of £965,000.
