Ep 4—The Making of the (RED) Auction—Remarkable Works of Art and Design

On 5 December 2018, Sotheby’s, Gagosian (RED) will hold the third (RED) auction. Curated by Sir David Adjaye and Theaster Gates and held at the iconic Moore Building in Miami, the auction will feature contemporary art and design donated by Jeff Koons, Marilyn Minter, Sean Scully, Sir Jony Ive, Marc Newson, Jennifer Guidi, Wangechi Mutu and other prominent artists and designers. All proceeds will go to the fight against AIDS. In addition, Sotheby's is holding an online (RED) auction from 15 November to 7 December featuring even more contemporary art and design. In Episode 4 of Sotheby’s 4-part video series, The Making of the (RED) Auction, learn about the works that have been donated to the auction by prominent artists and designers including the curators themselves. Theaster Gates’ "Civil Right Tapestry" is one of the signature works of his career. It comprises discontinued fire hoses and is a reminder of difficult moments in the United States and a reminder that there is still work to do. Sir David Adjaye’s table is all about freezing light into space.
