Satire & Subversion: A Chance to Own the Best of Banksy

Banksy, Girl with Balloon. Signed, from the edition of 150.
Estimate £60,000-80,000.

Girl with Balloon first appeared as a mural on Waterloo Bridge in 2002. Subsequently it became one of Banksy’s most iconic images, and gained infamy after the artist’s shredding stunt at Sotheby’s London Contemporary Art Evening Auction in 2018 .

Banksy, Grappling Hook. Signed, from the edition of 26.
Estimate £40,000-60,000.

“Military grade grappling hook and combination spiritual ornament?” – Banksy, 2017. A statement on the political and religious struggles in the West Bank, the Grappling Hook was originally offered at Banksy’s Walled Off Hotel in Bethlehem.

Banksy, Nola (Grey). Signed, from the edition of 63.
Estimate £35,000-45,000.

Nola was created in response to the devastation of New Orleans by Hurricanes Katrina and Gustav. The young girl realising that her umbrella is the source of the rain rather than a guard symbolises the failure of the city’s storm defenses, which did nothing to prevent the loss of countless businesses, homes, and lives.

Banksy, Laugh Now. Signed, from the edition of 150.
Estimate £24,000-28,000.

One of Banksy’s earliest images, and unlike the majority of Banksy’s art works which make social and political statements, Laugh Now was originally commissioned by a nightclub in Brighton.

Banksy, Pulp Fiction. From the edition of 600. Estimate £12,000-18,000.

Pulp Fiction originally appeared in London’s Old Street in 2002. This was painted over in 2007 by TFL due to the violent nature of the imagery, however, Banksy was not deterred. Representing Samuel L. Jackson and John Travolta as they appeared in the 1994 Tarantino movie of the same name, the violence of the film is negated with the inclusion of bananas rather than firearms.

Banksy, Trolleys. Signed, from the edition of 750.
Estimate £10,000-15,000.

The black and white example of this subject was originally released as part of the LA edition accompanying Banksy’s Barely Legal show in 2006. Depicting a group of cavemen hunting a ‘herd’ of trolleys, this print is thought to comment on the consumerist nature of society from its earliest days.

Banksy, Soup Can (Yellow and Red). Signed, from the edition of 10.
Estimate £10,000-15,000.

In 1962 Andy Warhol took the quintessentially American design of an inexpensive consumer product and turned it into a paragon of high art; 40 years later, Banksy adapted Warhol’s all-American democratic symbol and made it relevant to his contemporary moment. By choosing Tesco supermarkets’ own-brand of tomato soup and its basic bare-bones packaging – a stark contrast to comparative luxury of Campbell’s design classic – Banksy transforms an icon of post-war American affluence into a pithy, pedestrian emblem of twenty-first-century cost-cutting.

Banksy, Love Rat. Signed, from the edition of 150.
Estimate £20,000-30,000.

The rat is one of Banksy’s most frequently used subjects. Banksy wrote in his 2005 book Wall and Piece: “If you are dirty, insignificant and unloved then rats are the ultimate role model”.

Banksy, You Can’t Fool All Of The People… Unique, from a series.
Estimate £40,000-60,000.

A commentary on the gullibility of today’s society and the prevalence of advertising in our day-to-day lives, this unique spray paint and emulsion on wood demonstrates Banksy’s continued devotion to social commentary and sardonic slogans.

Banksy, Heavy Weaponry. From the edition of 25.
Estimate £50,000-70,000.

“Graffiti is one of the few tools you have if you have almost nothing. And even if you don't come up with a picture to cure world poverty you can make someone smile while they're having a piss." – Banksy

As the most sought-after street artist in the world, Banksy continues to upset the establishment and poke fun at politics, society and pop culture with his unique brand of satire. The first of its kind, this online auction offers works from £3,000–60,000, allowing collectors at each end of the market an opportunity to acquire one of his iconic images.
