Cameos, superb enamel work, old mine diamonds, intaglios, delicate seed pearls, ornate filigree and more captivating details abound in the suite of Renaissance Revival jewels coming to the Magnificent Jewels auction this spring. First popularized in the 19th century by master jewelers and goldsmiths such as Castellani and Giuliano, the pieces draw influence from classical antiquity to the Renaissance itself, and hold their value in their craftsmanship, exquisite design and historical importance. These wearable works of art are on view – and available to try on – at Sotheby’s New York from 12 to 16 April.
