The April Arte Contemporanea auction at Sotheby’s Milan took place during Design Week when the city throngs with collectors and enthusiasts of art and design. The sale achieved a total of €17,500,000, the second highest sum ever achieved in the history of Italian auctions (the first is still held by Sotheby’s). It produced a myriad of new records for artists both in Italy and worldwide, most notably for two largescale works on canvas by Mario Schifano which hold the top spots for the artist at auction.
