The pioneering London-based artist-partners Gilbert & George are known for their provocative, uncompromising works that confront the issues of contemporary life. At the Hayward Gallery, the collaborative duo presents a landmark exhibition of more than 60 floor-to-ceiling pictures made over the past 25 years. Investigating the way technology has reshaped their practice and identity as “living sculptures,” especially regarding increased scale and complexity, the artists harness images and text from everyday life to spark dialogues around sex, religion, class, nationalism, corruption and death. Among the highlights are two new works from their 2025 series “The Screw Pictures,” which turn their shape gaze inward to confront questions of aging and mortality.
