Artists have always wielded color as a powerful means of self-expression, and the Grimaldi Forum curates an immersive, chromatic journey through its many hues in its summer exhibition. Featuring 20th- and 21st-century masterpieces drawn from the Centre Pompidou’s collection, this wide-ranging exploration presents modernity’s varied experiences of color. Displayed in a “drum” arrangement that mirrors the shape of a colour wheel, more than 100 paintings, sculptures and design pieces radiate their multifaceted colors, including works by the esteemed artists Sonia Delaunay, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Pablo Picasso, Amedeo Modigliani, Henri Matisse and Wassily Kandinsky. The exhibition further reinforces colour as a visual phenomenon, taking a multisensory approach that incorporates fragrances by Alexis Dadier in collaboration with Maison Fragonard and sound by Roque Rivas throughout the exhibition’s seven monochromatic spaces — blue, red, pink, yellow, white, black and green.
