S otheby’s are delighted to present a fabulous selection of Scottish Art spanning over 150 years of Scottish Art History. Following on from the incredible success of The Way of Colour: Pictures from the Harrison Collection auction in March we are pleased to offer a number of works by the Scottish Colourists. The sale also features an outstanding selection of works by Joseph Crawhall that represent the finest group by the Artist to ever come to auction. We are also delighted to present a single owner group of works from the Collection of Dr Tom J. Honeyman, the former director of Kelvingrove Art Gallery and a key figure in the development of the arts in Scotland. Alongside these artists and collections are works by other great names of 20th century Scottish Art including John MacLauchlan Milne, Anne Redpath, Joan Eardley and Charles Rennie Mackintosh amongst many others.
This year marks the 150th anniversary of the birth of Samuel John Peploe one of Scotland’s greatest ever artists. Sotheby’s are thrilled to present an exquisite selection of works showcasing Peploe’s extensive range of subjects and styles. These paintings trace his illustrious career from early elegant still lifes, captivating views of Iona, Scottish landscapes inspired by Cézanne to his masterful still life arrangements of the 1920s.
Sotheby’s are privileged to be offering a selection of works from the Private Collection of Dr Tom J. Honeyman (1891-1971) one of the most celebrated and important figures in the history of 20th Century art in Scotland. Honeyman’s contribution to the cultural and artistic fabric of Scotland is significant and he left a creative legacy which is still enjoyed and admired to this day.
