T he Contemporary Art auction realized a total $3.9 million with more than 60% soaring past their pre-sale high estimates. Among the works that exceeded expectation were Mark Rothko’s 1937 canvas Two Women at a Window which sold for $138,600, more than double its low estimate, and Simon Hantaï’s untitled work from 1956 which sold for $119,700 against a pre-sale high estimate of $60,000. More than quadrupling its pre-sale high estimate, Dorothy Dehner’s Septenarius, from the groundbreaking and visionary collection of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Blank, sold for $100,800, a new record for the artist.
