T his November, Sotheby’s American Art Auction is honored to present an extraordinary group of paintings, works on paper and sculpture by some of the most celebrated American artists of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. Anchored by Milton Avery’s Feeding from the Collection of Carl and Estelle Reiner, an exquisite landscape by Maxfield Parrish, and a striking Jacob Lawrence tempera from 1964, the sale also includes a group of five paintings from the Estate of S. Hallock du Pont, Jr. Additional highlights include a spectacular Albert Bierstadt from the artist’s second expedition West, Fairfield Porter’s Landscape with Child and Dog, and two paintings by Norman Rockwell that appeared on the cover of The Saturday Evening Post in 1928 and 1939 respectively.
