Overview

Sotheby’s English Furniture Department offers furniture and objects dating from the 17th to the late 19th centuries, ranging from early oak furniture to the age of walnut and the finest mahogany and satinwood pieces made by England's most prestigious craftsman. Our sales regularly feature names from the golden years of English cabinetmaking in the mid-18th century, such as Thomas Chippendale, Mayhew and Ince, and William Vile and John Cobb.

Our seasoned team of experts is located in London and New York, the most important buying centres. Their passion and the trust they inspire in buyers and sellers alike have generated record results that have surpassed estimates.

Sales of English furniture are held in July and December in London, and in April and October in New York. English furniture also appears in many of our single-owner collections and House sales throughout the year.
