Eugène Hazart (1838–1891), sculptor and manufacturer of bronzes, was the son of Pierre-Louis Hazart, sculptor in Paris (1805–1868), and Marie-Françoise-Désirée Laffond (1812–1861). From 1884, he collaborated with the firm Pannier Frères, which exhibited his works at the Palais-Royal in Paris and represented him at the Expositions des Produits de l'Industrie.
Hazart most likely drew inspiration from the Louis XVI period seven-light model held at the Palais de l'Élysée, delivered to the comte de Saint-Priest, Minister of the Interior under Louis XVI, between 1789 and 1790.
Identical examples, signed Eugène Hazart Paris, were sold at Bonham's, London, 5 December 2014, lot 33, and at Hampel, Munich, 27 June 2024, lot 58.
