MORE ABOUT THIS LOT:

"Since 1992, Amethystos Red has been a reference point for Greek Bordeaux-inspired blends. Crafted by Estates Costa Lazaridi in Drama, the wine combines Cabernet Sauvignon with Merlot and Agiorgitiko, offering ripe black fruit, fine tannins, and remarkable balance. The 2016 vintage is notable for its concentration and elegance, a year characterised by a cool spring and prolonged, even ripening. This unique magnum, hand-painted by Greek artist Yannis Nanos, merges fine wine with contemporary art. It is an iconic piece celebrating both terroir and creativity." --Yiannis Karakasis MW

It was the spring of 1979 when a new chapter in Greek winemaking began to unfold in Adriani, Drama. A visionary young man, Costas Lazaridis, set out to leave his mark on the future of wine. He chose the sun-drenched slopes of Mount Falakro in Drama, landscapes that today host a vineyard of exceptional quality, offering its precious fruit to one of the most modern wineries in Greece. Through the oenologist’s art and mastery, the grape’s essence was transformed into what we savour each time we carefully pull the cork from a bottle of timeless Amethystos.

The bottle you now hold is a rare creation: the Amethystos Red 2016, which matured for twelve months in oak barrels before finding its place in this magnum bottle. Its character remains remarkable, shaped by the harmonious marriage of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, with the subtle presence of Agiorgitiko lending finesse and elegance to its finish.

Yannis Nanos was born in Drama in 1948. As an architect and artistic advisor to Estates Costa Lazaridi, he has contributed to the company’s creation, growth, and vision since 1992. For him, architecture and painting are not two separate identities, but one unified way of expression. He is the artist behind the painting on this special bottle, a bottle that is not just wine, but a piece of art.

Do not let this bottle remain only on display, reserve it for the right occasion.

Its contents deserve to be celebrated, shared, and remembered.
