MORE ABOUT THIS LOT:

Ktima Biblia Chora 2017 Ovilos White Wine Magnum & Ktima Gerovassiliou 2018 Avaton Red Wine Magnum

"These two iconic wines embody the pioneering spirit of Northern Greece. Ovilos 2017, from Biblia Chora on Mount Pangeon, blends Assyrtiko with Semillon in a style that has set the benchmark for Greek white blends, combining ripe stone fruit, minerality, and smoky oak with precision and age-worthy structure. Avaton 2018, from Vangelis Gerovassiliou’s estate in Epanomi, is a distinctive blend of indigenous Limnio, Mavrotragano, and Mavroudi, offering depth, spice, and an unmistakably Greek character. Together, these magnums highlight the diversity and innovation that have shaped Greece’s modern wine renaissance. " --Yiannis Karaksis MW

Ktima Biblia Chora Ovilos White 2017 Magnum

This wine is the result of combining two exceptional varieties, Assyrtiko and Semillon, which are planted in the warmest and most barren part of the Estate’s vineyard, on the slopes of Pangeon mountain. The aromatic expression of Semillon along with its great aging potential is well complemented with the strength, the structure and the excellent acidity that Assyrtiko carries. After a short pre-fermentation maceration, the grape juice is fermented in French oak barrels. Staying for a few months in its wooden (oak) residence and its contact with the lees highlight its varietal character and give it a rich flavour. It has bright yellow colour with light green hues. Its nose is elegant, expressive with aromas of apricot and honey that co-exist with notes of tropical fruits and citrus. All this is surrounded by a delicate sense of a sealed barrel with elements of nuts and vanilla. Rich, complex, fanciful, velvety on the palate, perfectly balanced with the rich bouquet of fruits, honey, nuts and its refreshing acidity. It can be aged up to 8 years, where it develops a nutty and creamy character and an excellent bouquet of aromas.

Ktima Gerovassiliou AVATON 2018 Magnum

A luscious blend of three Greek indigenous red varieties: Limnio, Mavroudi and Mavrotragano. Limnio, mentioned by comic dramatist Aristophanes as "Limnia ampelos" in the 5th century BC (vine from the Greek island Limnos), is the oldest attested Greek grape variety and predominates in this blend. Following extraction and completion of alcoholic and malolactic fermentation in stainless steel tanks, the wine matures in oak tanks of 50hL. It has a brilliant, deep-red colour and a complex bouquet of ripe dark fruits (raspberries), raisins, coffee and cacao. On the palate, gentle tannins are supported by an abundance of fruit, creating power and balance. The aftertaste continues with a repetition of the spices. Excellent ageing potential. Served at 16–18 oC. Food pairing: red meat stews in spicy sauces, game. Alcohol Content: 14 %vol Total acidity: 4.80 g as tartaric acid/L pH: 3.95 Residual sugars: 3.3 g/L
