4to (215 x 155mm.), engraved device on title, engraved illustrations in the text, woodcut initials and headpieces, the tables of books 1-3 (p.175-180) are bound incorrectly after book 3, contemporary calf, spine gilt in compartments, sprinkled edges, worming, binding somewhat worn, head of spine becoming detached; sold not subject to return


Following the description and history of the island of Chios is a history of the Giustiniani family, who claimed descent from Byzantine Emperor Justinian I. The Genoese branch of the family controlled the island of Chios for around two centuries from the mid 1300s.
