binding: Pastiche binding by Louis Hagué, 1880s, brown morocco, fantastic interlaced strapwork design painted black with Granvelle arms in centre, painted black, red, and silver, and surmounted by Cardinal's hat painted red, above and below the book's title "PONT./ROM", in interstices of strapwork border "A", "P", "P", "A", spine with 4 full and 2 half bands, ligated initials "A.P." in central compartment, edges gilt and gauffered. (Rubbed at joints and extremities.)
