Vente anonyme, Londres, Christie's, 9 décembre 2009, lot 256.

Prince Stanislaw Poniatowski was one of the most eminent members of the Polish court during the reign of Stanislas II, his uncle, the last king and grand duke of Lithuania. He was a member of the Polish Diet, a member of the Commission for National Education from 1776, and became Marshal in 1780. Highly respected by the Russian imperial court, he received the Imperial Order of St Andrew the Apostle the First-Called from Catherine II in 1777. Despite Paul I’s offer to make him Grand Prior of the Order of Malta, the Prince sold his assets and went abroad in 1795, first to England and then to Rome. He lived in a villa near the Via Flaminia, where he kept his renowned collection of paintings and cameos, as well as some of his uncle’s papers. It was also in Rome that he met Cassandra Lucci. They settled in the Villa Monterotondo in Tuscany and married after she was widowed in 1830. They had five children.

Ils eurent cinq enfants.
