Description

Mendelssohn Bartholdy, Felix

Sonate für Forte-Piano und Violine componirt und seinem Freunde Eduard Ritz zugeeignet [Op. 4] [parts]...Berlin: Laue, [1825]

FIRST EDITION, 14 and 6 pages, oblong 4to (piano part: c. 27 x 34.5cm) and 4to (violin part: c. 34.5 x 27cm), engraved throughout, plate number 9, pencil note to title in the hand of Ernst Rudorff ("Wahrscheinlich Geschenk des Componisten an Betty Pistor"), publisher's blind stamp to title, unbound, outer leaves detached and with small tears at hinge, dust-staining to outer leaves

A wonderful association item. A pencil note on the title-page, in the hand of the Berlin pianist and teacher Ernst Rudorff (1840-1916), states that this copy was probably presented by Mendelssohn to Betty Pistor (1808-1887), Rudorff's mother and an early sweetheart of the composer.
