A Set of Twelve Patinated Bronze, Porphyry and Yellow Siena Profile Relief Plaques of Roman Emperors, 19th/20th Century
the reverse of each with traces of paper inventory labels, and indistinct ink stamps bearing an ecclesiastical coat of arms possibly belonging to Ferdinando Capponi (1835-1903), Archbishop of Pisa

Ferdinando Capponi was born in Florence in 1835 to the illustrious and storied Florentine aristocratic Capponi family. He was appointed Archbishop of Pisa in 1881 and served until his death in 1903. Based on the ink stamps found on the reverse of each the plaques which appear to depict his personal ecclesiastical coat of arms, it is very likely that the present lot formed part of his personal or family collection.
