Description

oval, the lid centred with a rose-cut diamond-set monogram MA, probably for Marie Antoinette, in a matching oval frame, all sides decorated in translucent dark blue enamel with green quatrefoils and gold latticework paillon work, framed with gold paillon rope twist borders and chased leafy borders inset with rose-cut diamonds on a sablé ground, the sides further decorated with dividers formed of chased classical vases inlaid with mother-of-pearl, below a border of enamelled green laurel entwined with diamond garlands, maker's mark, first set of charge and discharge marks for Henri Clavel (1780-1782), Paris date letter R for 1780, contremarque for 1782-1789, post-1918 French eagle's head control mark for 18 ct gold,
