Overall in very good condition. A marvelous piece that displays Frank’s masterful use of parchment, the present cabinet is in very well-preserved condition and retains its original parchment surface. The cabinet is fully covered in parchment with the exception of the back and the interior. The parchment displays a highly nuanced cream color palette with beautiful, subtle variation in tonality. The parchment has been extremely well-preserved and displays with some expected scattered, minor surface scratches, abrasions, areas of very minor crackling, surface undulation and lifting, as well as faint discolorations consistent with age and gentle use. The edges with some small isolated areas of restoration to the parchment surface, the largest on the proper right edge measuring approximately 3/8 x 7/8 inch. The parchment with some areas of sensitively undertaken painted restoration concentrated to the edges and front door panels, consistent with the color palette of the material and only visible upon close inspection. Both doors retain functionality of movement and each is made of two panels that can be folded in half by the functionality of their concealed interior door hinges. The cabinet is offered together with four adjustable shelves in sycamore in very good condition overall. The shelves present with light surface scratches and edge abrasions to the wood consistent with use. The sycamore interior is in very good condition with very light soiling concentrated to the bottom corners. The period key, possibly original, with oxidation throughout, consistent with age. A superlative and rare work by Jean-Michel Frank in well-preserved, functional condition.
