Newington 1805 - 1881 Redhill
A Shepherd leading his flock under the full moon
Black watercolour over black chalk, heightened with scratching out, on card
148 by 178 mm
The following condition report was completed by Jane McAusland ACR FIIC, Conservator and Restorer of Art on Paper
Palmer has used a thin card with wove paper attached to the surface upon which to execute this small drawing. In my opinion, the artist has chosen this thin card as we see it today as the medium shows over the edge at the sides in places. Two very small artist pinholes are visible at the top corners. This card has now been laid down onto a piece of handmade paper in modern times. The black watercolour medium is in an excellent condition.
Note: This work was viewed outside studio conditions.
