This December, Sotheby's is proud to inaugurate a new era. In The Distillers One of One sale on December 3rd, we will mark the launch of biennial auctions of ultra-rare and unique Scotch whiskies and experiences, in partnership with The Worshipful Company Of Distillers' philanthropic arm The Distillers' Charity.

This is a golden opportunity for Scotch whisky aficionados and collectors to acquire some of the finest and treasurable whisky to come to market in recent times, including ultra-collectable one-offs, from artisan distilleries, exclusive to this sale. The first Distillers’ One of One auction – comprising one-off, never-to-be-repeated lots specially created and donated by leading Scotch Whisky distilleries – will take place at Barnbougle Castle on the outskirts of Edinburgh on Friday 3 December 2021. This is a ticketed event for which all attendees must be registered. There are over 40 lots, which showcase the excellence in quality, innovation and value of Scotch Whisky, ranging in estimates from just £1,000 upwards to £500,000.

This groundbreaking auction would not be possible without the generosity of some of the most revered brands in Scotch Whisky. The Worshipful Company of Distillers have galvanized whisky brands, both new and old, from every region of Scotland to present exceptional whiskies with incredible creativity, all in the name of charity.

The sale will benefit the One Of One Youth Action Fund, a group of charities which empower and assist disadvantaged youth in Scotland.

This Talisker 1978 Cask of Distinction, donated by Diageo, embodies a unique, priceless combination of art, craft and philanthropy. Selected as a Cask of Distinction on account of its outstanding quality, this 43 Year Old cask of still-maturing Talisker single malt Scotch whisky is paired with a cask-end that has been turned into an original work of art by acclaimed Scottish painter Callum Innes. This cask can be stored for up to a further 5 years from the auction close date before bottling.

Lot 36: Glenfiddich The 1950s Collection (4 Bottles). ESTIMATE: 220,000 - 350,000GBP

A one-off collection from the last four remaining casks of Glenfiddich distilled in 1955, 1957, 1958 and 1959. Cask No. 4222 (plain butt) – 1955, 66 Year Old

The colour is indicative of the delicate touch from the cask, enabling the distillery character to shine decades on. With a phenomenal vibrancy, a rare touch of peat smoke is an echo from when barley was malted on site.

Cask No. 6122 (sherry butt) – 1957, 64 Year Old

Rich and resinous as its dark amber hues, The Glenfiddich DNA of fruit notes and sweetness are woven with the cask character. Emerging is an unusual spearmint note, a late appearance after its long maturation.

Cask No. 8643 (sherry butt) – 1958, 63 Year Old

Brian Kinsman drew on all his experience of Sherry cask maturation to select this whisky of great age at its peak, with the most complete, classic Sherry cask character and magnificent richness of flavour.

Cask No. 3935 (sherry butt) – 1959, 62 Years Old

On the nose, this whisky is unmistakably reminiscent of warehouse eight, where it laid surrounded by the solera vat, marrying tuns and casks. It is lively and sweet on the palate, swinging to dryness, all in one sip.
