On day two of 2019 Hong Kong Autumn sale, Sotheby’s held its first evening auction of the season. Sanyu’s Nu sold for a record HK$198 million (US$25.2 million), setting a new benchmark for the artist. The sale on Saturday marks the first time the masterpiece has appeared at auction since Sanyu painted it more than half a century ago.
