First collected edition, with all four parts of Camerarius's emblems based on the natural world, including plants, quadrupeds, birds, reptiles and sea creatures, which were originally published separately between 1590 and 1604 (see lot 471).


4to (189 x 145 mm). Roman and italic type, 31 lines plus headline. collation: A4 )(2 A-Z4 a-b4 c2 A-Z4 a-c4 A-Z4 a-c4 d2 )(4 A-Z4 a-b4 c2: 421 leaves (of 422, without blank leaf d2 at end of third part, with blank leaf c2 at end of fourth part, first two quires misbound between parts 3 and 4). Four engraved title-pages, engraved roundel illustrations by Hans Sibmacher, woodcut initials.


binding: Contemporary (French?) tan calf (197 x 153 mm), central gilt armorial within a wreath, flat spine gilt. (Extremities slightly rubbed, joints neatly repaired.)
