First edition of Baglione's lives of artists working in Baroque Rome, ending with his own autobiography. Although Baglione made use of other published sources, he was also acquainted with many of the artists (and not always favourably - he took Caravaggio to court over an allegation of libel.)
This is variant B according to ICCU, with an additional privilege leaf from Urban VIII bound at the end of the preliminary leaves.
4to (246 x 180 mm). Roman type, 44 lines plus headline. collation: a6 χ1 A-Pp4 Q2: 161 leaves. Engraved frontispiece, engraved portrait of the author, woodcut initials.
binding: Contemporary limp vellum (253 x 188 mm), manuscript lettering on spine, stubs from two pairs of ties. (Pastedowns somewhat foxed, occasional browning and foxing, engraved title slightly stained and foxed, washed library stamp on title-page.)
