FIRST SPANISH TRANSLATION OF THUCYDIDES. Diego Gracián translated several Greek works into Spanish, including Xenophon and Plutarch, as well as Latin texts. He was a member of a dynasty of translators who held several posts at the royal court, from the time of Charles V into the seventeenth century. The book was dedicated by Gracián to Charles V, even though he had died by the time of publication, and Gracián included a petition within the dedication for his son to inherit his official position.
