Autograph letter signed "AVHumboldt"), in French, to Madame [presumably Countess Auguste von Harrach, wife of Friedrich Wilhelm III of Prussia]
addressing her as "Votre Altesse Royale" (despite her morganatic status), telling her he is sad since she returned to Dresden, mentioning numerous other notable people seen in Teplice, talking of his forthcoming visit to Paris, and the stay of the King in Teplice,
"... Le Roi a joue ici le plus beau tenis du monde... Le Roi partira d'ici après demain et ne fera la visite obligée a Pillnitz qu'au retour de cette reunion que les journaux ont la malice de nommer un congrès..."

Teplice is a renowned spa town, 45 miles northwest of Prague, and was a popular resort in the nineteenth century. Humboldt spent the month of July 1835 there, not long after the death of his brother Wilhelm in April.
