Description

Guillaume Apollinaire

Le Poète Assassiné. Paris: Bibliothèque des Curieux, 1916

FIRST EDITION, INSCRIBED BY THE AUTHOR to André Tudesq, 8vo, portrait of Apollinaire by Andre Rouveyre, later maroon half-morocco over marbled boards, binding slightly rubbed

Apollinaire served as an infantry officer in the French Army during the war, was wounded in the head in 1916, and died aged 38 of Spanish flu on 9 November 1918, two days before the Armistice. Although mostly prose, the volume features a small number of poems concerning WW1.

This copy was inscribed to the writer André Tudesq, who jointly founded the review Les soirées de Paris with Apollinaire.
