Art of the Season

The Art of the Season

By Sotheby's

LONDON – The brief window of British summertime has become synonymous with the social season that gloriously unfolds in June and July through highly anticipated annual flower shows, music festivals and sporting occasions from Wimbledon to Henley Royal Regatta – no matter the weather conditions. Today’s season has significantly evolved from the annual debutant balls of the 18th century from which the social season originates, and of course now art too is integral, from the unveiling of the Serpentine pavilion, the opening of Art Fairs, and of course the London auction season.

Sotheby’s galleries at New Bond Street, a destination for exceptional works of art, will be transformed as part of this year’s summer season. From lyrical masterworks by Miró and Kandinsky to a great late masterpiece by Turner, museum-quality decorative arts in the Treasures sale to highlights of Mario Testino’s collection of contemporary art, there is something to inspire every collector and art enthusiast.

Join us this season to experience the variety of exhibitions in our galleries with displays that will evolve over the course of six weeks, and the stimulating programme of talks by our experts and special guests – and even our themed teas in Sotheby’s Restaurant that celebrate some of the art in our galleries and another highlight of the season, Wimbledon.
