The Contemporary Art Evening Sale in London this June comprises a core line-up of Pop icons headlined by Andy Warhol’s Self-Portrait from 1963-64; from the Pop pioneer’s very first series of self-images, this painting captures the moment that Warhol the artist became Warhol the icon. This is joined by a Picasso-inspired painting by Roy Lichtenstein; a day-glo Keith Haring that was included in the artist’s legendary Shafrazi exhibition in 1982; an imposing Basquiat triptych from 1983; a Richard Prince Nurse painting and a mesmeric Richter abstract from 1989. The sale also includes two stand-out Warhol/Basquiat collaborations from the Tommy Hilfiger Collection, and arresting works by Christopher Wool and Albert Oehlen from the Lorie Peters Lauthier Collection.
