Sotheby’s is honored to present the extraordinary Molesworth collection of Jake and Ruth Bloom in a dedicated auction on May 23rd. With thoughtful curation and a commitment to the vernacular of Thomas Molesworth, this private collection presents some of the rarest models executed by Molesworth to ever appear at auction. Lauded with establishing a truly western interior design aesthetic in the early 1930s, Thomas Molesworth’s genius lies in his ability to create a western style that was romantic and unique, yet cosmopolitan, witty and familiar. Exhibiting Molesworth’s characteristic burled wood, colorful leathers, dynamic Chimayo weavings, and imaginative western motifs, the collection presents a variety of seating from streamlined club chairs and iconic keyhole side chairs, to knotty lamps and creatively carved tables. Captured in the Bloom’s western retreat, the collection was paired with progressive Contemporary Art, creating a dynamic and colorful interior, fusing modernity, innovation and sophistication to further emphasize the timelessness of Molesworth’s western vernacular.
