mosé salvato dalle acque (the finding of moses)
OVERVIEW
The 19th & 20th Century European Sculpture sale on 17th May is the most important sale in this category in recent years. It includes several rare, museum-quality pieces by some of the most revered sculptors of the period. The extraordinary Chioma di Berenice by Ambrogio Borghi was exhibited at the Exposition Universelle in Paris in 1878.
Other highlights include a fascinating discovery - a previously unknown life-size marble version of Jean-Baptiste Carpeaux's Frileuse. Following the recent exhibition of Jean-Léon Gérôme's art at the Musée d'Orsay it is a privilege to be able to offer a truly remarkable gilt-bronze cast of his Tanagra. In addition we are offering a fine bronze cast of St George by Alfred Gilbert and a life-size marble group of The Finding of Moses by Francesco Barzaghi. Significant works by Barye, Fremiet, Dalou, Boucher and Mestrovic also feature in the sale.
