Showcasing the very best of cross-disciplinary art in Italy, Arte Contemporanea offers the perfect opportunity to acquire works by some of the century’s most sought-after artists. Coinciding with the Salone del Mobile and Miart in Milan, this auction will present a noteworthy range of artworks spanning the pre and post-war period through to the very cutting edge of Contemporary Art today.
The auction will kick off with the Hockemeyer Collection, a carefully curated selection of post-war 20th-century Italian ceramics. The evening continues with highlights including two works from Alberto Burri’s series of Combustione, a Jean-Michel Basquiat work on paper executed in Italy in 1981 and two historical masterpieces by Schifano executed in the early 1960s.
International artists are also represented by paintings by record-breaking artists Joseph Albers and Max Bill. Amongst the rare and diverse examples of Lucio Fontana’s oeuvre, a unique exemplar of the friendship between Lucio Fontana and Roberto Crippa stands out. The sale also features modern masterpieces beginning with a serene still life and a landscape both by Giorgio Morandi, a mesmerising Giorgio de Chirico and a vivid largescale canvas by Fortunato Depero.
