L’anno 1947 segna non solo il ritorno di Lucio Fontana dall’Argentina ma anche la nascita del "Movimento spaziale". Questa Battaglia del 1947 in terracotta invetriata è stata eseguita da Fontana al suo rientro in Italia, durante il suo soggiorno ad Albisola, dove continuò le proprie ricerche sull’utilizzo delle ceramiche e di cui riprese con fervore la produzione.
Battaglia del 1947 si ricollega al trattamento informale da parte dell’artista sia della materia sia del soggetto, portando così a conseguenze estreme le sue precedenti intuizioni di espressività materica. Il rapporto dialettico con lo spazio che è suggerito dal dinamismo dell’opera già prevede i risultati che poco dopo contrassegneranno i suoi Concetti Spaziali. The year 1947 marks not only the return of Lucio Fontana from Argentina but also the birth of the "Spatial Movement". This Battaglia of 1947 in glazed terracotta was executed by Fontana on his return to Italy, during his stay in Albisola, where he continued his research on the use of ceramics and of which he resumed fervently the production.
Battaglia of 1947 relates to the artist’s informal treatment of the material and the subject, thus leading his previous intuitions of material expression to extreme consequences. The dialectical relationship with space that is suggested by the dynamism of the work already foresees the results that shortly after marks his Concetto spaziale.
