In his 1998 novel, author William Boyd created a fictional abstract expressionist painter named Nat Tate, and fooled the art world with a little help from his 'Modern Painters' magazine colleague David Bowie. Sotheby’s sale of David Bowie’s art collection, Bowie/Collector, will take place in London on 10–11 November.
