Three outstanding portraits by Francis Bacon, Jenny Saville and Albert Oehlen will lead Sotheby’s Contemporary Art Evening Auction (26 June | London). In this episode of Expert Voices, discover the impact that massive life events had on each artists’ work and how art history forms a dialogue between them. ‘Self-Portrait’ from 1975 shows Francis Bacon emerging from the pain of mourning the death of his former lover George Dyer. Jenny Saville’s ‘Shadow Head’ is at once fragile, violent and psychologically charged.
