A Collector’s Evening: An Experience with Sotheby’s and St. Regis Hotels & Resorts

LONDON | NOVEMBER 2025

At The St. Regis London, opening next year in the city’s tony Mayfair district, 10 discerning guests will have the rare opportunity to embark on a one-of-a-kind experience. Curated by Sotheby’s, in collaboration with St. Regis Hotels and Resorts (part of The Luxury Group by Marriott International), it will meld the iconic hotel brand’s own fabled history and lineage of hospitality, local artistic expression, gastronomic immersion and legendary stories that could only exist in a city like London.

The day begins with a private tour of a rarefied space that changed modern British art forever: The extraordinary studio of the late painter Howard Hodgkin. Led by the artist’s partner, Antony Peattie, and his studio manager and archivist Matthew Burdis, guests will have a chance to absorb the depth of Hodgkin’s brilliant contributions to artmaking. During the tour, guests will indulge in Bloody Marys, the signature cocktail of the St. Regis, the recipe of which was perfected back in 1934 at The St. Regis New York, served by private butlers.

After the studio visit, guests will enjoy a pre-dinner champagne toast in the elegant St. Regis London Library. An intimate dinner bursting with a floral tablescape and a curated menu will follow, with wine pairings. Two guests will be staying in one of The St. Regis London’s suites par excellence, a treat that includes a gourmet breakfast served the following morning. The eight additional participants in the Sotheby’s x St. Regis London experience have the opportunity to stay at the hotel for a special rate, should they choose to enjoy all the hotel has to offer.

The St. Regis Venice

The St. Regis name has been analogous with a sense of refinement since 1904, when the hotel first opened in New York City. Founded by the entrepreneur John Jacob Astor IV, the St. Regis New York drew from his mother Caroline Astor’s strides in high-society luxury and his own interest in technological prowess. The St. Regis soon became the toast of the city, amassing praise for its comfortable lodgings and technological advancements (each room boasted its very own telephone). In the century since, St. Regis Hotels & Resorts has opened locations in some of the world’s most beautiful locations, from Jakarta, Indonesia to Florence, Italy.

The St. Regis Mardavall Mallorca Resort

The vibrant city of London is set to become one of the next Best Addresses in the St. Regis portfolio, with the brand taking over the former site of The Westbury Mayfair Hotel. The future St. Regis London has been undergoing a stunning renovation that will see it open its doors in 2026. Originally envisioned as a home away from home for the Phipps family, who played polo, The Westbury Mayfair Hotel has long been an institution of its own and a pinnacle of five-star hospitality since it first opened in 1955. Upon its reopening, the elegance of The St. Regis London will continue the hotelier’s century-plus tradition of impeccable lodgings while redefining true luxury.
