Launch Slideshow

This May Sotheby’s New York evening and day auctions of Contemporary Art will feature important works by 40 celebrated artists with strong ties to the Hammer Museum at UCLA. To mark this historic sale, which will support the creation of a new Artist Fund, Ann Philbin, the museum’s visionary director, and Sotheby's Nina del Rio and Thomas Bompard welcomed guests to a dinner and private viewing on 16 April. The night began with a reception in Sotheby's Century City galleries, where cross-category highlights from upcoming sales were on view, and continued at the UTA Artist Space, which recently opened in Beverly Hills. Click ahead to view images from the opening party, attended by several of the artists participating in the auctions, including Kenny Scharf and Analia Saban.

Artists for the Hammer Museum works will be on view in public exhibitions in Los Angeles at UTA Artist Space from 17 April to 20 April and in New York at Sotheby’s York Avenue galleries opening 3 May.
