10 Events Not to Miss During FIAC 2019

  Modernités and Impressionist & Modern Art Auctions at Sotheby’s Paris

  As the art world converges on the FIAC in Paris, the third edition of the Modernités sale at Sotheby’s Paris is going to be a high point of the season. This evening sale presents over 50 major 20th century artworks including two visionary artworks by Francis Picabia: Médéa and Adam and Eve. Spectacular artworks by Lucio Fontana, Jean Dubuffet and Hans Hartung as well as rare pieces by Fernand Léger and René Magritte will be presented.
  
  Following Modernités, the Paris Impressionist and Modern Art sale is marked by a group of paintings by Anto Carte depicting classic themes dear to the Wallon painter. The sale also presents two rare temperas on canvas painted by Paul Sérusier in 1894, a remarkable selection of Cubist and Surrealist works, as well as paintings, sculptures and drawings by modern masters such as Auguste Rodin, Marc Chagall and Pablo Picasso.

  Bacon: Books and Painting at the Centre Pompidou

  After several exhibitions dedicated to Marcel Duchamp, René Magritte, André Derain and Henri Matisse, the Centre Pompidou continues its re-examination of major 20th century artists by devoting a large exhibition to Francis Bacon. Bacon: Books and Painting presents paintings dating from 1971, the year of the retrospective at the Grand Palais, to his final artworks painted in 1992.

  The Musée d’Art Moderne de Paris marks its reopening by the presentation of La Fabrique du Geste, a monographic exhibition by Hans Hartung from 11 October 2019 to 1 March 2020. This exhibition brings a new perspective to the work of this key 20th-century artist and his prominent role in art history: Hartung was a pioneer of abstraction, one of the most influential artists of his time.

The exhibition pays tribute to this artist as an architect and visionary creator through the exploration of her artworks and their close links between art, architecture and design.
